For over a decade, The Police Credit Union has given out scholarships to help students pay for college. Our winners this year include 5 students who are very passionate about their educational goals, and highly motivated to make important changes in their communities.
Congratulations to our 2024 Scholarship Award Winners!:
Amber Gibson
Amber is an active law enforcement officer and graduate student who is on track to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice. Amber is committed to continuing her own law enforcement training and that of future officers, as well as using her education and experiences to give back to her community.
Faith Dang
Faith is a senior at Lowell High School who will be starting her freshman year at Chapman University this fall. Faith has learned at least 4 different languages, and plans to study Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business to bridge the gaps between different cultures and economies.
Shannon Garry
Shannon is a soon to be student at Colorado State University who plans to study pre-med. Shannon was inspired to pursue this path by her grandfather Walter James Garry, a long-time lieutenant of the San Francisco Police Department, and later the Chief of Police at Cal Expo in Sacramento. Just like her grandfather contributed to a safer society and better future through law enforcement, Shannon intends to honor his legacy by making those same contributions through the healthcare field.
Yen-Ching Chiang
Yen-Ching is a current Deputy Sheriff with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office who is a graduate student at Arizona State University studying Homeland Security Emergency Management. Yen-Ching plans to use his continuing education to further his goal of building a bridge between law enforcement and minority communities.
Erick Lara
Erick is a current student studying Computer Science and Engineering at UC Davis and hopes to inspire future generations that anyone can become an engineer. In addition to being an accomplished student, Erick has also shown his willingness to give back and help the community as a volunteer tutor for math, physics and computer science.
